Gareth is the new Clinical Lead for IBD and Research for the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, having moved from the UK in November 2022. He previously completed his PhD and advanced IBD training with Professor Tariq Ahmad’s team in Exeter, UK. During his higher degree, he helped to discover a novel NUDT15 variant in Caucasian patients with thiopurine-induced myelosuppression, as well as working on several other projects, including the PANTS study. His interests include the integration of pharmacogenetics into routine clinical practice, as well as the remote monitoring of IBD patients through a combination of patient symptom tracking and smart phone-based home faecal calprotectin. He is currently working closely with the CCCare team to help develop this unique cloud-based clinical tool and patient registry in Australia.
