Professor Simone Strasser

Read Biography

Professor Simone Strasser is Head of Department and Senior Staff Specialist in the AW Morrow Gastroenterology and Liver Centre, and Medical Director in the Australian National Liver Transplantation Unit at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the University of Sydney in Sydney Australia.

She is Past-President of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA), and a Board Director of the Liver Foundation, an Australian community organisation to support people with liver disease.

She has a major clinical and research interest in viral hepatitis, primary liver cancer, fatty liver disease, advanced liver disease, and liver transplantation. She is Director of Hepatology Clinical Trials at RPAH leading clinical trials of new therapies for patients with hepatitis B, liver cancer and other liver diseases.

Her publications include many book chapters and over 200 publications in peer reviewed journals.

Professor Martin Weltman
Director of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department, Nepean Public Hospital, Kingswood, NSW.

Associate Professor Martin Weltman is an experienced Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist, with a strong interest in liver disorders, capsule endoscopy, reflux oesophagitis, colon cancer screening and inflammatory bowel disease. He completed his medical degree at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa in 1983. This was followed by specialist training in both South Africa and in Australia at Royal Hobart, St George and Westmead Hospitals (FRACP 1992). Professor Weltman subsequently obtained a PhD from the University of Sydney (1998) for his key studies into fatty liver disease.

Professor Weltman consults in Bondi Junction as well as at Nepean Public Hospital where he is also the Director of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department. He is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Sydney

Besides being an author of over 40 publications, multiple book chapters and a textbook in the field of gastroenterology (‘Gastroenterology and Hepatology: A Clinical Handbook’), he is also an editor and reviewer for specialist medical journals in the field of gastroenterology.

Dr David Prince is a staff specialist gastroenterologist and hepatologist at Liverpool hospital. David is currently completing a PhD part time investigating ways to improve the care of patients with chronic liver disease.
