Daniel Lightowler is a Clinical Nurse Consultant of Inflammatory Bowel Disease at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, NSW, Adjunct Lecturer of Internal Medicine at The University of Western Australia, and President of the Gastroenterological Nurses College of Australia. Daniel is currently the Education Lead for the IBDNA, Member of the IBDNA national steering committee, Scientific Committee Chair for GENCA, sits on the Editorial Board for the J-GENCA journal and is a peer reviewer for Gastroenterology Nursing. Daniel also has a background in education, with a Master’s degree in Health Professions Education and is currently undertaking his Masters of Nurse Practitioner. Daniel was named a semi-finalist in the WA Young Achiever Awards in 2020 and has been inducted as Member of the Order of St John by the Governor General in 2022 for his work in education and youth development in St John Ambulance Australia.

A/Prof. Viraj Kariyawasam is a Senior Gastroenterologist with public and private practice. He is an Associate Professor at Macquarie University and Western Sydney University. He completed his Ph.D. on the use of thiopurines in IBD at the University of Sydney and is committed to advancing medical research and finding innovative treatments for his patients. His passion for teaching and research is evident in his numerous publications on Inflammatory Bowel Disease, contributing significantly to the academic and scientific community. Recognizing the need to improve training and enhance the quality of care for IBD patients, A/Prof Kariyawasam was a founding Director of IBD Sydney Organization which has been instrumental in developing programs that aim to bridge the gap between rural and metropolitan patients, ensuring equal access to excellent care across all areas in NSW in Australia.
